Arsene Wenger has stated that he was sad at the departure of the Bayern winger from Arsenal.

Ex-Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that he knew Serge Gnabry would be great during his days with the gunners.

Gnabry joined Arsenal youth team in 2011 from stuggart but failed to break into the First team of the club.

He moved to West Brom on loan in 2015 in a failed attempt to revive his career.

However, the German International later joined the Bundesliga side  Weder Bremen a year then before sealing a move to Bayern Munich in 2016.

The 25-year-old was the star of the night as Bayern defeated Lyon 3-0 to book a place in the final of the 2019/20 UEFA Champions League on Wednesday. Gnabry scored a brace in the encounter being his 9th goal in 9 champions league appearances this season.

Wenger revealed that the youngster struggled with injuries and he wanted to leave, He (Wenger ) was desperate to keep him knowing he had a bright future.

“His tendency was a bit too easy, like I’ve told you about with these young talented players, but he has matured a lot and is now one of the dominant players in Germany.

“I had given him out on loan to West Brom, and he didn’t play a game. He came back, he was injured. We worked very hard with him for six months, and he went out with the German national team, under-21’s, and Bayern made a deal with Werder Bremen. Wenger told beIN Sports.

“He wanted to sign, in the end, didn’t want to extend his contract (with Arsenal), and I was very sad. But we couldn’t get over the line with him because I knew he would have a great career.

“He can be a number nine, a number 10…he’s a very intelligent player.”
