FIFA has reportedly recommended that football teams be allowed to make five substitutes to help players cope with the congested scheduled when football returns

The world football governing body FIFA is set to recommend that football teams be allowed to make five substitutes to allow players to cope with a tight schedule due to the corona virus pandemic.

The recommendations acknowledge the increased demands that players are likely to face as soccer returns.

With matches set to be probably played every few days as Leagues try to recoup the lost time due to the pandemic.

“When competitions resume, such competitions are likely to face a congested match calendar with a higher-than-normal frequency of matches played in consecutive weeks. Said a FIFA spokesman.

“Safety of the players is one of FIFA’s main priorities. One concern in this regard is that the higher-than-normal frequency of matches may increase the risk of potential injuries due to a resulting player overload.

Teams will be allowed to make five substitute in total, three substitutes in the first half and two in the second half to help prevent unnecessary stoppages

In conclusion, “In competitions where less than five substitutions are currently allowed, each team would now be given the possibility to use up to five substitutions during the match, with the possibility of an additional substitution remaining during extra time, where relevant.”

The proposal will have to be approved by the International Football Association(If), football rule-making body before Implementation.
