When it became obvious that football activities would not return anytime soon due to the coronavirus, clubs and club owners began seeking measures to manage the Economic Financial crisis they will face due to the COVID-19.

One of the measures includes players taking a pay cut so as to help their club survive this difficult time.

However, only Arsenal football club has an agreement to reduce the annual salaries of players and coaches by 12.5%, three first-team players refused the proposal, while Chelsea are on the verge of agreeing on a 10% wage cut.

“I’m not sure how I’d have dealt with it, but I’ve got a lot of sympathy for the players out there because, once again, a lot of players are getting criticised. Roy Keane told Sky Sport.

Roy Keane has come out to defend the player’s decision, insisting if he was playing he would not, especially if it was a big team.

“There are players at the big clubs, with a lot of wealthy owners, who are under pressure to take pay cuts. I wouldn’t take a pay cut from anybody if I was at one of the bigger clubs.

The former Irish International advised players not to yield to pressure from big clubs on taking a wage cut.

“I know there’s pressure on players, but it’s nobody’s business what you do with your wages.

“You take your wages, and if you want to be generous you go ahead and do it.

” I don’t think players should feel under pressure from clubs, particularly the bigger clubs, to take pay cuts. he added

Football players in the premier league were urged to take a 30% wage cut, But instead, a #playertogether initiative was set up by club captains to raise money for National Health Service(NHS).
