Enyimba release statement on kidnapped player

Enyimba international midfielder Ojo Ekundayo was kidnapped by gunmen along Benin-Owo Expressway on Sunday 22 March.

The former sunshine player was on his way to Akure for a break after the Nigerian professional league was suspended due to coronavirus pandemic.

“Ojo was in the company of Enyimba teammate Emmanuel James as well as Benjamin illuyoumade, also a professional footballer. While James escaped the attack, illuyomade was captured alongside Ojo.

“Enyimba Fc has since maintained contact with ojo’s family as efforts are already in place to ensure the player’s release from abductors.

“At this time, and considering the sensitivity of the incident Enyimba Football Club wishes to call on members of the media to refrain from reports or speculations capable of jeopardizing the players safety.

“Ojo’s family also wishes to appeal for privacy while enjoining the general public to pray for the safety and freedom of the player. In a statement released by Enyimba football club on their twitter page.

The 25-year-old has featured five times for the super eagles of Nigeria. He was signed by Enyimba football Club from Sunshine Stars of Akure.
