David Luiz to Miss Arsenal Europa League clash against Rapid Vienna due to head injury

Arsenal centre back David Luiz has been ruled out of the Gunners Europa League clash against Rapid Vienna after a head injury sustained in the match against Wolverhampton.

Luiz injury was as a result of the clash of heads with Wolverhampton striker Raul Jimenez in the first half of the premier league game on Sunday, with the Portuguese coming off worse.

He was  forced to withdraw from the match with blood seeping from his head  bandage, after being allowed to continue for about 40 minutes.

Speaking about Luiz, Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta revealed that the Brazilian international will be unavailable for the Thursday night’s Europa League tie with Rapid Vienna, but may be able to face Tottenham in the premier league.

“I think he will be fit to play if the scar is healing properly and he is comfortable heading the ball, there shouldn’t be any problems.

Arsenal were criticised by former England international Alan Shearer for allowing Luiz to continue playing after the head injury

However, Arsenal have insisted protocol were followed

“With David showing no signs of concussion, the decision was made for him to continue playing with close monitoring,”
