But just how close the Juventus star is to establishing himself as the all-time leader on the international stage.

After surprisingly falling behind with a header from Gerson Rodrigues at the half-hour mark, Diogo Jota continued his recent hot streak in front of goal with the draw level for Portugal just before the break.

Cristiano Ronaldo put the visitors ahead early in the second half, knocking home a Joao Cancelo cross from the right.

And Portugal went on to end any remaining hope of a Luxembourg comeback with 10 minutes remaining when substitute Joao Palhinha scored his first goal on the international stage.

Ronaldo has now scored a watering, 103 goals in the colors of Portugal.

This leaves the Juventus superstar just six goals behind Iranian icon Ali Daei’s 109 all-time marks.

And this means that it is not out of the question that Ronaldo may go on to establish himself as the best scorer in the history of International games most likely at the European Championship in the summer.

Portugal’s next fixture is against Spain on June 4, before facing Israel on June 9.
