Chelsea are vying with Paris Saint-Germain for the signing of Lucas Gourna-Douath from St Etienne, according to reports.
The 17-year-old is enjoying an impressive season, having made 23 Ligue 1 appearances in 2020/21.e He seems comfortable in the French top flight and even recently starred against PSG.
According to sources in France (via Daily Mail), Chelsea is now weighing a move for Gourna-Douath.
Club scouts have identified the player as a future star in central midfield. The Blues might also be tempted to move in for him this summer.
It is believed that St Etienne would accept an offer of £23 million for his latest graduate from the academy. While this may seem like a large sum for a young player, Chelsea could reap the rewards for years to come.
He would quickly adapt to life in the Premier League and could become a first-team starter under Thomas Tuchel.
However, Chelsea will have to beat several European teams to get Gourna-Douath signed.
The midfielder has been linked with a number of top European clubs the likes of PSG, AC Milan and RB Leipzig.
PSG is firmly in the race to sign the youngster. The French giants first saw him in a 1-1 draw in January.
Chelsea will be encouraged by the long list of talented graduates of the French team. Kurt Zouma started his career there before securing a move to Stamford Bridge in January 2014.
