Chelsea are reportedly planning to extend their defender, Thiago Silva’s contract until June 2022, after an impressive season for the blues with sensational performance.
The Brazilian arrived at west London from Paris-saint German last season after his contract expiration.
Silva has been a regular for the Chelsea during the 2020-21 campaign, making 27 appearances across all competitions, including 19 in the Premier League.
The 36-year-old’s current contract with Chelsea is due to expire at the end of June, but according to Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea want to renew the agreement until next summer.
Romano states that Silva is ‘so happy’ at Stamford Bridge, while both the German and the club’s board ‘appreciate’ the player.
Thiago Silva have been struggling with a thigh problem recently, but the star has played the full 90 minutes in his Chelsea’s last two games against West Ham United and Real Madrid.
The blues are currently well stocked at left-back with Emerson Palmieri, Marcos Alonso and Ben Chilwell, all options for head coach Thomas Tuchel.
However, Palmieri and Alonso may depart Stamford Bridge at the end of the term, potentially freeing up a space in the Blues’ senior team squad.
