The defender was a peripheral character at the London club under then-manager Frank Lampard. He struggled to find game time after falling out with the former Chelsea boss, and eventually went on loan to AC Milan.

Tomori settled down quickly at his new and made 22 appearances for the Rossoneri.

The England international played a crucial in their 2nd place finish in the Serie A, and put some decent performances under his belt, which has convinced their manager Stefano Pioli to go back for the player again.

The Italian club are to pay Chelsea £25 million for Tomori, while £5 million are included as add ons. The player is set to pen a 5 year deal at the club.

AC Milan’s technical director Paolo Maldini also had a huge part to play in this transfer as he worked closely with Tomori during his period.

“You feel [Maldini’s] presence. As much as I’m playing for myself and for the team and the manager, I want to impress him,” Tomori said in March.

The move to Italy means it will be the end of his 16-year long association with the club. Tomori joined the London club as an under-8 player and blossomed through their academy.

Since his debut in the 2015-16 season, the defender has made 27 appearances for the Premier League outfit.
