Karim Benzema was on target twice for Real Madrid, as Zinedine, Zidane’s team overcame a resilient Athletic Bilbao side 3-1.


Real Madrid, Striker, Karim Benzema scored two goals to give Real Madrid a 3-1 win over 10-man Athletic Bilbao, helping lift his team level on points with the front-runners of the Spanish league on Tuesday.


Bilbao proved to be a tough opponent at Alfredo Di Stéfano Stadium despite playing most of the match with only 10 men. But when the Basque Country team was threatening to at least salvage a point, Benzema scored his team-high ninth and 10th goals of the season.


Raul Garcia was sent off after he was shown a second yellow card in the 14th minute for a foul on German midfielder Toni Kroos.

Kroos gave Los Blancos the lead with the last kick of the first half, rifling a shot from outside the box to beat Bilbao goalkeeper Unai Simón.


Bilbao defended solidly and pressed on the counterattack, which later yielded an equalizer in the 53rd minute, with Óscar de Marcos finding the backing of the net.


Dani Carvajal lobed in a cross for Benzema to head home for the 75th-minute winner for the Spanish Champions.


Benzema added another late goal after to seal the game, this was only after Courtois had saved a shot by Mikel Vesga, that will have leveled the game.


Real Madrid have now won four straight games in all competitions with three in the la Liga and one in the champions league and a level on points with surprise league leader Real Sociedad.
