Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said his team should be “more ruthless” in front of goals after the 1-1 draw with Benfica on Thursday night.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang missed a golden chance to put the Gunners ahead in the first half.

Benfica took the lead in the 55th minute through Pizzi from the penalty spot after the ball was adjudged to have hit Emile Smith-Rowe’s arm.

Bukayo Saka equalized for the gunners two minutes later assisted by Martin Odegaard.

Arteta praised his side for their quick reaction after conceding, but said he Arsenal should have taken more than a point if they were clinical in front of goal.

Arteta told BT Sport (via BBC Sport), “We were very dominant and created some great opportunities. We have to be more ruthless. It was disappointing how we conceded the goal. We gave them the ball, then it was 1-1 and everything to play.

“We conceded a corner, then we didn’t react quickly enough from the corner and conceded the penalty. When you look at it, it’s hard to judge. We had a great reaction and scored a great goal.
