Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has questioned David Luiz and also refused to  blame Bernd Leno as they both were sent off in a 2-1 loss to Wolves on Tuesday night.

The defeat ended Arsenal’s seven-game unbeaten streak and dampened their attempts to catch the Premier League’s top five, leaving them adrift four points.

The Gunners took the lead in the first half thanks to a good solo goal from Nicolas Pepe.

However, it was downhill from there. Luiz was sent off for a last-man tackle in the closing minutes of the first half and a penalty was awarded.

Ruben Neves stepped forward to make equalise for Nuno Espirato’s men.

Moutinho’s 30-yard stunning goal sealed a 2-1 victory for the host.

Later, Leno was sent off for handling the ball outside the box, when he ran off his line to stop an attack.

Arteta speaking after the game said “The team was really on top of the game, we should have been three or four to zero and in that action [Luiz’s red card] the game changed completely.

“I’ve seen it ten times from different angles and I can’t tell you where the contact is. If you have 50 other different angles to view it, it might surprise me. I looked at several different angles and I can’t see any contact there.

The Spaniard also defended Leno saying: “I imagine he makes the decision in a fraction of a second and naturally tries to stop the ball. There is nothing he can do. ”

Arteta will be hoping for a reaction in the Gunners’ next game when they face Aston Villa on Saturday.
