Arteta gives latest injury update on David Luiz, Alexandre Lacazette, and Kieran Tierney ahead of Villarreal

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta is not Certain if David Luiz will feature for the gunners again this season after the defender suffered another injury against in the victory against Newcastle United.

Luiz returned to the Gunners starting XI after missing the month of April having undergone surgery on a knee problem.

The Brazil international enjoyed an impressive return as Arsenal eased to a 2-0 win at St James’ Park but was forced off early in the second half, going down with what looked liked a  hamstring injury on his left leg.

Arsenal host Villarreal in the second leg clash of the Europa League on Thursday, trailing 2-1 from the first leg ahead of the visit of Unai Emery’s side this week.

Luiz could be set to miss out however with Arteta was disappointed to have lost the 34-year-old to another setback.

“We don’t know,’ Arteta told a press conference said when asked if this injury could signal the end of Luiz’s seasons.

“He felt something in his hamstring so it’s not good news.

“He’s put such a shift to be back with the team for the last few weeks after the knee surgery and it’s a real shame.”

Alexandre Lacazette and Kieran Tierney both missed the trip to Newcastle and are both doubthful for the all important clash as confirmed by Arteta in his post-match conference.

“They haven’t trained with the team yet so I think they’re unlikely to be,’ Arteta said of Tierney and Lacazette’s availability for the coming week.”
