Arteta “disappointed” with chances missed in 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta says he is “disappointed” by the way his team gave up opportunities in a 1-0 loss to Aston Villa.

 

The Gunners went behind in the second minute when Villa lunged on a defensive error by Cedric Soares.

 

The winger tried a pass to Gabriel, only for Bertrand Traore to pounce on the loose ball.

He crossed it for forward Ollie Watkins, who seized the opportunity to pocket his 10th league goal of the season.

 

Arsenal have now lost two straight games in the premier league having lost 1-0 to wolves in midweek.

Speaking after the loss, Arteta told BBC Sport: “I am extremely disappointed that we lost and the way we lost it. We were the best team. We controlled all the departments, but we gave them the ball.

“We gave them three other great opportunities. Then when we had to score the goal, we didn’t find the right pass or the right shot.

 

“They were better at the boxes and that’s how you win games. We create enough opportunities. We don’t score, we can’t win the game.

“We just gave them the ball, at one point you are wrong and they punish you.

 

“You can’t win football games if you do something like that every week. Four or five times we have played with ten men. Against the Wolves, we deserved to win both games from afar, but we lost both. “
