Arsenal set asking price for first-choice goalkeeper as Mikel Arteta Prepares squad overhaul

Arsenal boss, Mikel Arteta is open to the possibility of selling first choice goalkeeper Bernd Leno this summer, according to reports.

Emiliano Martínez left the glove with a string of excellent performances in Leno’s absence towards the end of the 2019/20 season, but he completed a move to Aston Villa last summer after being told the German would keep the number one spot.

Leno performed well for Arsenal last season, missing just three matches as the North London team finished with the third-best defensive record in the Premier League despite finishing in eighth place.

However, the 29-year-old goalkeeper is now seen as surplus to requirement as Arsenal draws up a shortlist of potential replacements, and Arteta looks to review his equipment before the beginning of next season.

According to The Mirror, the gunners will be willing to let Leno leave the Emirates for a fee of around £22.5m that he was signed for three years ago from Bayern Leverkusen.

Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana has been identified as a potential replacement to Leno between the sticks.

Thou the Cameroon international is currently suspended till November due to a doping ban. but is expected to be available for as low as £5m.

Speaking last month, Leno who has two years remaining on his current contract at the Emirates refuted news of leaving in the summer.

I am still happy at Arsenal,’ he told Sky Sports.

‘Arsenal is still a big club, a big name in the world and in the Premier League.

‘There is nobody in the dressing room who says: “I want to leave the club, I am not happy here anymore!’
