Arsenal have accepted the decision of The Football Association after their appeal against  David Luiz red card against wolves was rejected.

Luiz was sent off for the third time in his career for the Gunners after referee Craig Pawson awarded a last-man foul on Wolves forward Jose.

He will now miss the Gunners trip to Aston Villa on Saturday.

Coach Mikel Arteta had  “high hopes” of overturning the decision, adding that blaming Luiz for the incident “is not fair.”

Arsenal have accepted the FA’s decision, but insist they are “disappointed that their appeal was not successful.”

Arsenal released the following statement: “The Football Association have confirmed to us that the red card given to David Luiz on Tuesday against Wolverhampton Wanderers will stand.

“We have worked really hard to overturn David Luiz’s red card. We presented our case to the FA but are disappointed that our appeal has been unsuccessful.

“We accept the FA’s decision and continue our preparations for Saturday’s match against Aston Villa.”

However, Southampton will have defender Jan Bednarek available for their game against Newcastle on Saturday after his red card against Manchester United was overturned.
