Arsenal boss, Mikel Arteta, has warned the club to learn lessons from Mesut Özil and Sokratis Papastathopoulos who were offloaded.

Ozil was the highest-earning player at the Emirates with his £350,000-a-week deal, but he will join Fenerbahce after his contract was canceled six months earlier.

Earlier this week, Sokratis had also ended his deal by mutual consent.

Both players remained on Arsenal’s books despite being excluded from both the Premier League and Europa League roster.

Arteta has now urged the club to better manage their players’ contract situations in the future.

“You don’t want to get in this position anymore, that’s for sure.

‘Not for the player, not for the club.

“I think you need to have those communications open, of course to avoid it as much as possible and if they happen, just make up your mind and don’t try to put off a situation that isn’t working for much longer,” said Arteta.
