The gunners are said to have won the race to sign Gabriel Magalhase from Lille on a 5-year deal.
Gabriel Magalhase will join the Gunners on a five-year contract ‘in the coming hours’ after Mikel Arteta’s side moved to the front of the queue for the left-footed center-back according to French media L’Equipe.
Everton were reportedly in the front race for the signature of the 22-year-old but were overpowered by Arsenal and Napoli.
The Serie A side were said to offered him an improved wage and are still willing to bring him to Italy.
But, Arsenal are now closer than ever to sealing the deal, which will be the gunners’ second signing from Lille in as many summers after the arrival of Nicolas Pepe on an £80m last year.
When concluded, this will be coach Mikel Arteta’s second major signing of the season after the acquisition of former Chelsea midfielder Willian on a free transfer as he aims to bolster his squad ahead of a busy schedule for the 2019/20 season.
Magalhase joined Lille in 2017 from Brazilian club Avai after a loan spell and has grown to be one of the best young defenders in the French league 1
