Spanish giants Real Madrid are now four points above Barcelona on the La Liga table after victory over Getafe.
Sergio Ramos 79th minute penalty goal secured a narrow 1-0 win over Getafe on Thursday night encounter at the Estadio Alfredo di Stefano Real Madrid temporary new home.
Barcelona slipped further in the title race after playing a 2-2 draw against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday at the Camp Nou.
Real Madrid knew they needed to take advantage of the flop of Quique Setién side, which they did, but not after having to overcome a resilient Getafe team.
Los Blancos found it challenging to break the Getafe’s resolute defence, not until Mathias Olivera fouled Dani Carvajal in the 79th minute to win a penalty for the whites.
Ramos stepped forward and converted the spot-kick calmly into the back of the net of the visitor, giving Real the much-needed win.
Zinedine Zidane’s side are now in the driving seat having 74 points from 33 games four points above the defending Champions Barcelona who have 70 points from 33 matches with five games left to conclude the 2019/20 La Liga season.
Real will face a tough one when they travel to San Mames’s stadium home to Athletic Bilbao on Sunday, 5th July for the next round of the match.
